The Dune Brothers play classic rock, Americana, and blues. Our song list includes familiar and surprising titles from across the radio dial. We have a full ensemble of drums, bass, guitar, and sax. While our sets are driven by intersecting solos and orchestrated jam sessions, we also showcase three-part vocal harmonies. We play public venues, breweries, vineyards, restaurants, galleries, patios, parks, community celebrations, and private events.
The band began officially in 2016. Comprised of working musicians, The Dune Brothers played various shows throughout northern Michigan. And then came COVID. Like most organizations that lived through those years, The Dune Brothers pulled back, retooled, and re-energized. We’re now back with full muster: playing live, recording shows, writing new songs, and planning for much more. With a new lineup, new songs, and new equipment, the band is amped for the next phase.
John Kumjian: Bass, Harmonica, Vocals · John is a multi-instrumentalist. Known especially for his guitar, keyboard, and vocal work in New Third Coast, one of the region’s finest musical acts, John also performs with “Looking Forward” and “The Jim Crockett Band.” For The Dune Brothers, he has committed to bass guitar. He also takes up the torch as prevailing vocalist and unofficial ensemble director. In short, he makes the band’s wheels turn. When he’s not performing, he’s busy writing, recording, and drumming for other artists.

Brian Marek: Drums, Vocals · Brian has been part of the Grand Traverse County music scene for over forty years. His drumming has created the foundation for many bands, and he continues that tradition with The Dune Brothers. Brian also handles lead vocals for much of our set list. He has also mastered the electronic drum kit—an art in itself—which allows the band a range of performance options.
